There was one thing I was fearing when walking into the cinema: will this second Akshay-Katrina movie, after the disastrous Humko Deewana Kar Gaye also dissapoint?
Some people say movies with excellent music tend to have worthless storylines. Namaste London puts an end to this stereotype.
Namaste London tackles an issue close to many peoples hearts in asian society - the idea of forced marriage. Katrina plays the pretty British asian chick who is forced to marry a noble, innocent village boy, Akshay Kumar. However, when Akshay comes to London things turn haywire, as Katrina questions the validity of the marriage, and begins to express interest in marrying a rich gora... the rest you can watch for yourself!
The viewer learns from Akshays journey that there are no conditions in true love. One cannot change onself for another in the name of love.
Himesh Reshammiya's music is given perfect treatment on screen, with great visuals and choreography. Rafta Rafta is portrayed the best out of all the songs; in the video Katrina's dazzling desi look and Akshay Kumar's bright pink and shocking green kurtay are worth a look!
Rishi Kapoor delivers a tremendous peformance, upholding the emotional and comical portions of the movie amazingly well. However, of all the performances, it is the lead pair Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar who walk away with the most applauds. There is no other girl in the Bollywood industry who could have portrayed the role of a British Asian the way Katrina did, with such ease, style and confidence! Akshay Kumar is on top of his game yet again, and delivers another awe inspiring performance, one of his best to date!
If there is one movie you are going to totally enjoy this year, it is going to be Namaste London!
My rating: 7/10
