Krrish

Krrish... a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya

What a movie this promises to be. Rakesh Roshan has always been known for breaking the norms for bollywood, and here he is doing it again - the first super hero movie in Bollywood.

Promotion is underway, and boy is this movie looking spectacular! Here is a first look of Krrish for those who have not seen one.

Hrithik is the perfect actor to play the super hero role. I can't imagine any other actor fitting into the krrish description. Priyanka on the other hand is doing her job fine - looking stunning as usual.
Talking of Priyanka, i have an interesting fact for you...
The moment Priyanka was finalised as the actress of Krrish is a very memorable moment. You won't forget this after reading it! (",) The decision to take on Priyanka took place at the Late Yash Johar's funeral. Yes, funeral!
Pehli nazar ka hai asar, dil yeh deewana hua,
Hairaan hoon mein yeh soch kar, tum mein ghazab hai aisa kya!
The story goes that Rakesh Roshan, the director of Krrish, saw her enter the funeral and was attracted by her simple appearance, coupled by sophisticated manners. She was wearing a shalwar kameez and sporting glasses. It was at this very moment that Rakesh Roshan decided that the heroine of his movie is going to be none other than Priyanka Chopra.
Kya tum wohi soch rahe ho jo main soch raha hoon?
What was Rakesh Roshan doing 'observing' Priyanka on a sad occasion like a funeral.
*I hope Karan Johar is making a note of this point*
The music launch took place a couple of days ago. So far, just one song has struck the super hit chord for me - "pyar ki ek kahaani". There are a couple of other melodious numbers in there, but they will take time to grow.
Ps: The Krrish official website has been fully launched! It's definitely worth a visit! www.krrishthemovie.com

36 China Town

Murder. Lies. Mystery. Fun. Welcome to the party at...
There's no director in Bollywood that tackles a thriller theme better than Abbas-Mustan. His movies have always been a treat, to the eyes and to the ears. His previous movies, Aitraaz and Humraaz have not failed to dissapoint. I remember watching Humraaz very well. It was such a nail-biting film, with unexpected twists n turns, although i was abit dissapointed by the way the ending was executed. Let's hope Abbas Mustan has a better ending in store this time.

Expectations are relatively high for 36 China Town. The promo's playing on air are stunning. Visuals are crisp. And Kareena is looking slimmer/hot! Not to forget, Priyanka is also in the movie, but she has not yet featured in any of the promo's.

36 China Town features a range of actors. In the lead are Akshay Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Upan Patel, Paresh Rawal (he's a legend!) and Johnny Lever. It is not every day we get to see Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever in one frame - whether they are playing serious or comic roles, their presence in one frame will surely make a scene!

The musical score is peppy n catchy. The song shooting up the charts is none other than
"a-a-a-aashiqui mein teri, j-j-j-jaaye gee jaan meri". This song is creating a wave all over. The music video is electric. The man behind the soundtrack is the numero uno singer/composer of the moment, Himesh Reshammiya!

Supposedly the music video to "a-a-a-aashiqui mein teri" is the most expensive music video ever made in bollywood, beating the flashy "Tere Bina" from the mega-flop Kareena, Fardeen starrer Khushi.

This looks like a promosing flick. The promo's are exciting and what matters is that they have won over me - i'll be watching this one in the cinema! (",)

Releasing 5th May, 2006

Don - First Look

Here is the first look of Farhan Akhtar's Don, *ing Shahrukh and Priyanka

Appealing first look. I like it ;)

Note: This movie is still under production and supposedly it is adopting an interesting marketing strategy, of publishing a range of posters and promos, and releasing them parrallel to the shooting of the film.

Salman Khan sentenced to 5 years in prison!

Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years in prison for poaching rare antelope.

Here's An Interesting Viewpoint...

5yrs is a tough sentence. Did he deserve it? Maybe? It is quite obvious that he is guilty, and there is video evidence to prove it. I'm not sure if Salman Khan himself has come out and said he is not guilty (or the reasons why he did it). A little remorse might have spared such a harsh sentence. After all people get two or three years for commiting attempted murder, rape and so on and this sentence is almost like the judge is saying 'you had no grounds for appeal, except your star status, i'm handing down a bigger punishment for wasting court time''.

He shouldn't have appealed. Now he is going to be crying in the showers, and eating porridge for five years. Indian jail wardens will enjoy beating him, media will finally get to see what made him guilty, and he can start mending his ways. He is supposed to be a Muslim, but has erred previously. Time to walk the straight path and stop trying to act like a hard man. Sooner or later every hard man meets a like minded individual who is worse than him. In this case the lethal judge.

Killing an endagered species is serious. If he went and killed 2 of the last few hundred bengal tigers living, then people would be outraged across the world (if he was say a Hollywood star). The only thing that stinks in all this is the time it has taken to reach a verdict and the resources used which could have been put to better use (such as more measures to protect animals who are endangered).

But, there are mixed views... another source says:

Salman's inner connection to get him out of five years of imprisonment
Media Release (source www.indiadaily.com/editorial/7937.asp)
Apr. 10, 2006

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was today sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and sent to central jail in Jodhpur by a local court in connection with the black buck poaching case.

But experts say the down fall of the first Bollywood Khans may be temporary after all. Salman has enough connections in the Indian security infrastructure to get him out of this in no time.

According to media reports, Chief Judicial Magistrate Brijendra Kumar Jain also imposed Rs. 25,000 fine on Salman, who was taken into custody and sent to the jail. The court ordered one year rigorous imprisonment for co-accused Govardhan Singh and imposed Rs. 5000 fine. Four other persons were acquitted in the 1998 case when a chinkara was killed by Salman at Ghora farmhouse in Jodhpur.

I say...

5 years is totally unfair. The same is happening to Salman what happened to Sanjay Dutt in the early 90's. Media just needs a reason to pinpoint him. However, Salman Khan is known to have underworld connections and he's a massive star in India, there's no doubt about it. And it is these connections that will come to his help - well, I hope so, even though i'm not a great fan of Salman's, i think he will come out before 5 years. Many people go to jail and discover the real meaning of life. Islam. I hope going to jail opens up Salman's eye's and makes him into a better human being.

Himesh Reshammiya - The Man, The Music, The Voice

Hit after hit after hit, there's nothing stopping this man. From the days of Tere Naam and Humraaz, this man has come a long long way.

He has a voice like no other and creates music like no other. This man is different. He has a cool rough image on screen. You see him all the time in his videos maintaining the same style - always wearing a hat; the same stubble/beard, and funnily enough always holding the mic in his left hand with his head tilted, screaming 'tera tera tera surooooooooor'!

He created a wave with Aashiq Banaya Aapne - a heart throbbing album as music director/debut singer. It was by far the hottest selling album of last year in India. I must add though that two of the songs from that album were ripped off Pakistani artists! Nevertheless, Himesh tasted great success with Aashiq Banaya Aapne, in paricular, the title song and 'aap ki kashish'. At the end of 2005 he sweeped the annual awards for best music - not bad eh!

Then came Aksar - 'ek baar aaja aaja', 'lagi lagi' and 'mohabbat ki guzaarish'. Another super hit album. However, success for the man didn't end here.

Having realised how his voice and his music are creating waves in bollywood, Himesh kicked off 2006 by launching his debut album. From just a music director, to a playback singer, to a solo album, all in just a matter of months - that is saying something!

So here came the solo album, titled Aap Ka Suroor, with the main single named 'Tera Suroor'. Can you believe it - it went on to be another chartbuster! And today as i type, 'Tera Suroor' is still at the no.1 spot in the weekly India Top 10 chart, ahead of all other modern day pop sensations. The album is selling like hot pancakes everywhere.

Another hot song to add to the list of hits is 'zara jhoom jhoom' from the yet-to-release movie Tom Dick & Harry. In this one we see Himesh on stage singing in his trademark style with the cast of the movie jumping up n down going bonkers in the background to the beats of the music. It's a fabulous track, one definitely for a party occasion.

Himesh Reshammiya has come a long way in a short time. Now the question is, how long will he last at the top?

News about this man doesn't stop here. There's more...

You must have come across the latest movie Humko Deewana Kar Gaye *ing Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, which has been promoting itself on air lately. Well, interestingly, with the soundtrack already released, the director of the movie approached Himesh Reshammiya to compose a new version of the title song, since his voice is the craze of the moment! A smart promotional strategy. Not to my surprise, the song with a fresh set of lyrics, music and Himesh's voice has been playing non-stop on indian music channels, and is rapidly working its way up the ladder to yet another Himesh Reshammiya numero uno hit!

What's going to stop this man? How long will he enjoy hit after hit? Only time will tell.

The thing is he composes music that suits his voice that's why the result is pleasing. His haters say that he has no variety and that he is just repeating the style of Aashiq Banaya Aapne with minimal change. For Aksar's 'ek baar aaja aaja' this statement could be semi-positive, but come on, get a life people - the man has had more hits in these past months than many music directors have had in their entire lifes! His music is entertaining, his voice is unique, and he is the Man of the moment!

From a recent Q&A session, Himesh speaks...

Q: Would you sing for other composers?
A: Only if A.R Rahman asks me. No one else. He's the No. 1. And he did say in an interview that Aashiq banaya aapne is his favourite track of the year

For now, all you lovers and haters, just sit back, listen and enjoy! (",)
