2006 - Expect Fireworks!

The past year was a decent year for Bollywood, even though we didn't get to see many A-list directors like Karan Johar hitting the big screen.

2006 is going to be a year to watch out for! You can expect fireworks this year because we are going to see many A-list directors delivering their movies - from Karan Johar to Rakesh Roshan to Subhash Ghai to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The list is endless. So what does 2006 hold for us viewers?

To put it simple, this year is largely going to be the year of remakes and sequels. We are just into February and we have seen the release of three big movies, Zinda, Family and Rang De Basanti. The latter, *ing Amir Khan has turned out to be the 1st SUPERHIT of 2006!!!

I shall post my thoughts on Rang De Basanti in another blog (cos it deserves a blog of its own!), but for those unaware of Rang De Basanti, let me tell you this - the standard it has laid down so early in the year is going to be hard to beat! Karan Johar isn't gonna have an easy ride at the Filmfare awards this year! hehehe

Karan Johar is gonna be back this year after quite a break since K3G, with another 'K' flick, titled Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna - this is probably the most awaited movie of the year, *ing Shahukh, Preity, Rani, Abhishek and Amitabh.

Then you've got Farhan Akhtar's Don, which is a remake of the Amitabh classic. This time enacted by Shahrukh Khan, alongside Priyanka. I wonder how he's gonna pull off the classic tune "khaike paan banaaras wala" lol, should be a moment to remember!

After the huge success of Baghban, Ravi Chopra is going to return with Salman, Rani, Amitabh and Hema Malini in Baabul, which is a sequel to Baghban. It's going to be the same family orientated 'rona dhona' emotional storyline that we all adored when watching Baghban - let's hope Baabul works the same magic over us in 2006!

Remember 'Dhoom Machale, Dhoom Machale, Dhooom!!!' - Well, its back in 2006 - Dhoom II. This should be bigger and better - again we will see Abishek, but this time the villains are going to be Hrithik and Aishwarya! Now that's something to watch out for!

The villains are going to be seen again in 2006, this time as a love pair in the remake of the classic Umrao Jaan. Can you imagine Aishwarya dancing to 'dil cheez hai kya jaana', dyammmmmmm!!! I'm surprised the jodi of Hrithik and Aishwarya was not noticed before by directors - they do make the perfect couple, lets hope their online chemistry matches our backscreen perceptions.

Bole to, we're not finished with sequels yet. Hint Hint... Bole to, Munna Bhai returns this year! :) Circuit is gonna be with him again, the entire starcast is going to be the same and take my word, Sanju Baba will not dissapoint! ;)

When Kal Ho Naa Ho hit the screens in 2004, a star director was born. Nikhil Advani was the most talked about director on the scene, and in 2006 he's going to be back with his second release, this time a multi-starrer - Salaam-E-Ishq, *ing Salman, Anil, Juhi, John and Priyanka. Hmmmmm... interesting.

Hmmmm... am i forgetting a movie here?

Haila! How could i forget Krishh... the sequel to Hrithiks last blockbuster Koi Mil Gaya, now this is something to watch out for! Every movie father and son have made so far has been a blockbuster. First it was Kaho Na Pyar Hai, then Koi Mil Gaya, and now Krishh... This time around Hrithik is going to be playing a super hero, who can run faster that a horse and can fly. The beautiful lady alongside Hrithik this time around will be Priyanka... who knows, will we see the return of jadoo? And what about Preity? Time will tell...

You will be wondering when is this guy going to stop blogging on about 2006 releases. There's a way to go yet, hold your patience!

Q: What do Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dushman have in common?

Hint: She's back in 2006

A: Kajol

Yes! That's right, Kajol is going to be back in 2006 alongside Amir Khan, playing a kashmiri girl in the Hum Tum director's second movie - Fanaah. Music is by Jatin-Lalit and with Kajol returning alongside the perfectionist Khan, the fans favourite, im sure this movie will not dissapoint.

Fans of bollywood scream and moan "Shahrukh aur Kajol ko hum kab dobara dekhe gein?? :("

The movie list does not end here. Bollywood has many more movies to offer in 2006, these are just a selection that have come to mind right now. I'm sure i have missed out some big ones like i always do lol

With the news of Salman Khan going to prison for a year, i don't know how that will effect his aforementioned movies. I hope there aren't any delays and that we are treated to quality cinema.

Finally, one question you may be asking yourself is where is Sanjay Leela Bhansali (my favourite director!) on the list for 2006? Well, that's a tricky one to answer. SLB is always tight-lipped about his movies. You never get to hear or see anything until the promos of his movie are put on air! Since Black SLB has been quiet. However, strong rumours are that his next movie, supposedly titled Saanwariya, will see the launch of Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam Kapoor. Hmmm... Interesting. But the question is, will SLB strike a quadtrick? HDDCS, Devdas, Black... and now Saanwariya. Can it get better than Black? Only time will tell.

As for the release date... since shooting hasn't even started yet, we'll be lucky to see Saanwariya by the end of 2006; chances are it will hit us early 2007 - but let's hope SLB wraps up his movie by the end of this year to put the icing on the cake for Bollywood!

I'll leave you with a little prediction of mine...

Who's year will it be in 2006?

Ssshhhh predicts it will be a close call between Abhishek and Hrithik. As for the ladies, Preity and Rani will remain dominant, but Aishwarya will return to the No.1 spot with ease.

Bollywood - Introduction

Here we go then, my first post of my new blog. I've decided to brush aside chatting about my life and instead focus on one thing - what my heart lies in - what my eyes crave to see - what my ears die to hear - Bollywood!

For those new to Bollywood, you will be wondering to yourself, what is Bollywood? And someone nearby will whisper "its bullshit, all you see is girl meets boy and they sing and dance around trees".

Yes, actors do still sing n dance around trees and change their costumes in songs more than once - so what!? Thats the beauty of Bollywood and for those narrowminded people out there i just want you to open your eyes a little wider and realise that Bollywood has alot more depth to it than just singing n dancing around trees. Take for instance the likes of Black, Lagaan, Swades, Musafir, Company etc etc.

It's 2006. From Sholay to Shabd - from Deewar to Devdas - from Zanjeer to Zinda, bollywood has come a looong way, but what makes me smile today is that Bollywood has not sold out to Hollywood.

It's true that stories have evolved, direction has improved and is on par with Hollywood if not better, but the beauty is that those love stories still remain, singing and dancing still remains, the lovely 'phoolon kay baagh' still remain, full of colour and beauty! (as seen in the pictures - transition from 1992 to today).

This is Bollywood.

Now officially, Welcome to Bollywood Ki Baatein
